Letter from the Editor: Spirituality & Self-Care

Our Jordan Year

New Year, fresh anointing. No pressure, just BE. Growth is a good thing. Take what you have learned and apply it, one day at a time.

When I reflect deeply on where I am spiritually and in the journey of self-care, those are the words that come to mind.

It’s a new year and fortunately, we all get a fresh start. I want to remind you to start where you are. Release the pressure to be perfect because even when you think you’re almost there, perfection will mask itself in a different way. It’s like aiming at a moving target. Instead, just be. Present. Kind. Forgiving.

That is how I choose to prioritize self-care also known as self-love as I enter a new orbit around the sun. In no way am I an expert or even a coach – I choose vulnerability.

And fortunately, my ladies are here with me. Showing up, one day at a time. Let’s get into what’s going on at TBE this month, shall we?

This month on TBE

I am working hard to pivot the brand into a fully digital magazine – ICYMI the retail store is closing down. You can still shop the site (at deep discounts), but we will no longer release monthly collections.

I’ve shared how managing the boutique had taken me away from the original vision of the brand. TBE has always been about uplifting our community through fashion, wellness, and beauty.

Hard lessons and tough decisions can be a gift if we allow them to be. I'm reminded of how faithful God is in moments that feel so natural like when I interviewed our January cover girl, Saria in the first episode of Brick by Brick, a podcast by The BrownStone Experience. The mission is to build a community of conscious women who intentionally support one another.

Fashion

I've learned so much about the boutique and wholesale industry. More importantly, I humbly bow out because it is not my ministry.

With this change, I now have the capacity to focus the fashion pillar on style tips and direction. As a personal stylist, it brings me joy to help professional woman curate wardrobes for their busy lives.

Can you say it with me....obedience?! God has a way of showing out when we surrender. Did you see the Express Style Partnership announcement on IG? Yassss! It’s only up from here ladies, stay tuned!

Let me know your favorite brands, I’d love to check them out.

Wellness

In the wellness corner, we are launching a series called “Gotta family to feed”. The goal is to create a bank of recipes for our community to help each other with weekly dinner ideas.

More to come on how to submit your favorite recipes. Yes, we want to make healthy choices but first, let’s focus on cooking and consistency. I have found this method helps my family tremendously in many ways.

My prayer is that you find both tangible and divine resources within the TBE community.

Beauty

In beauty, we are refreshing our makeup & skincare routines. We share 3 black-owned retailers we are supporting. Because if we have to buy all the things to stay fabulous – we can at least #buyblack, on purpose and with purpose.

There's so much more to come. I envision a platform where black women can feel seen, heard, and free to be themselves.

A place where sisterhood is celebrated through community, curated events, and collective economic power. For those of you who have been around since the launch in early 2020, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

For the ladies who I've met since stepping out as the Editor & Founder, thank you for joining the movement. #weallwegot - It's a lifestyle.
